Joe Defends Mitch: 'I’m Confident He’s Going to Be Back to His Old Self' [Watch]

While speaking to reporters at a news conference on FEMA’s response to Hurricane Idalia, President Biden was asked about Mitch McConnell’s health after the Kentucky Senator’s latest freeze-up.

Biden defended McConnell, saying it’s all part of his recovery.

“I spoke to Mitch. He’s a friend and I spoke to him today,” Biden said. “And, you know, he was his old self on the telephone.”

“And one of the leading women on my staff, her husband’s a neurosurgeon as well,” he noted. “It’s not at all unusual to have the response that sometimes happens to Mitch when you’ve had a severe concussion — it’s part of his recovery.”

“And so I’m confident he’s going to be back to his old self.”

After the latest scare, McConnell was cleared to work with Capitol Attending Physician Dr. Brian Monahan saying in a statement he consulted with the Kentucky Republican and his neurology team.

He found McConnell was “medically clear to continue with his schedule as planned.”

“Occasional lightheadedness is not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also be expected as a result of dehydration,” Monahan noted.

The 81-year-old McConnell suffered a concussion back in March after a fall at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Washington.
