While speaking to reporters at a news conference on FEMA’s response to Hurricane Idalia, President Biden was asked about Mitch McConnell’s health after the Kentucky Senator’s latest freeze-up.
Biden defended McConnell, saying it’s all part of his recovery.
“I spoke to Mitch. He’s a friend and I spoke to him today,†Biden said. “And, you know, he was his old self on the telephone.”
“And one of the leading women on my staff, her husband’s a neurosurgeon as well,†he noted. “It’s not at all unusual to have the response that sometimes happens to Mitch when you’ve had a severe concussion — it’s part of his recovery.â€
“And so I’m confident he’s going to be back to his old self.â€
After the latest scare, McConnell was cleared to work with Capitol Attending Physician Dr. Brian Monahan saying in a statement he consulted with the Kentucky Republican and his neurology team.
He found McConnell was “medically clear to continue with his schedule as planned.â€
“Occasional lightheadedness is not uncommon in concussion recovery and can also be expected as a result of dehydration,†Monahan noted.
The 81-year-old McConnell suffered a concussion back in March after a fall at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Washington.
